July 2018 - A message from Baradene College Alumnae
In May the class of 1952 held a reunion luncheon in the Baradene Parlour. It was at this luncheon that alumna, Djuanne Walker, was presented with an award
4 years in the coming. Djuanne was awarded the AMASC Emeritae Award, recognising her work for AMASC, the RSCJ community and her dedication to
Baradene. Djuanne has had many roles at Baradene - student, teacher, parent and grandparent. Djuanne was AMASC National President of NZ and Australia
from 1996 to 2007. Djuanne’s dedication to the Sacred Heart and her love of the Sisters at Baradene could be seen by her many visits to the convent
and her tireless enthusiasm and energy for the college, staff and students.
In April we hosted an Alumnae Parents' Evening at Baradene College. We have over 100 alumnae with daughters currently at Baradene, including Alumnae from
sister schools in India and France. This was a wonderful evening of connection and nostalgia where we heard from our college Principal, Sandy Pasley,
the Alumnae Association and the Development Foundation.
We held our AGM in April and, at this meeting, we elected some of our committee members into new roles. These are: Treasurer - Sarah Padey and Secretary - Alice Gallagher. We have a strong and growing Alumnae Association in New Zealand, with 12 dedicated women on our committee, all working with the common purpose of helping to bring Alumnae together. Committee members are: Mel Watson (President); Viki Cullen (AMASC Regional Co-ordinator); Alice Gallagher (Secretary); Sarah Padey (Treasurer); Nicola Judd; Sarah Stone; Natalie Thomas; Annie Turnbull; Fleur Ford; Tracey Mihaljevich; Kylie Marinovich and Melinda Copestake.
It is with much sadness that we heard of the passing of Alumna Felicity Rennie on the 21st May. Felicity was President of the Alumnae Association from
1979 - 80. Her husband, Gavin Rennie, was the Baradene College Limited Chair from 2010-2017. Eternal rest, grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.
Alumnae Cor Unum Meritae Award nominations are closing soon. This award is presented at the Alumnae High Tea (23rd September 2018) and recognises Alumna
who have had the courage to take on significant challenges, shown integrity and constantly aimed for excellence in their career, while embracing
the philosophy of the Sacred Heart in their lives. Click here for a nomination form.
